# Quality profile

If you do not explicitly associate a language with a specific quality profile in your SonarQube Cloud project, the default quality profile will be used.

If you do not explicitly associate a language with a specific quality profile in your project, the default quality profile will be used for the analysis of this language’s code. To change a quality profile association in your project, you need the Administer permission on the project.

With the Administer Quality Profiles permission, you can change the associations of a profile for any project. This is done from the respective quality profile. In addition, you can delegate this permission to any user for a given custom quality profile. You create and manage quality profiles at the organization level. See [Creating a quality profile](/sonarqube-cloud/standards/managing-quality-profiles/creating-a-quality-profile.md). In your project, you can assign a general profile to all or selected languages, or a language-specific profile to one language. For a given language, the most recent assignment applies. See [Understanding quality profiles](/sonarqube-cloud/standards/managing-quality-profiles/understanding-quality-profiles.md#profile-types) for more information.

## Using a general profile <a href="#using-a-profile-for-all-languages" id="using-a-profile-for-all-languages"></a>

1. Go to *Your project* > **Policies** > **Quality profiles** and select the **General** tab. See [Retrieving projects](/sonarqube-cloud/managing-your-projects/retrieving-projects.md) to access your project.
2. In the **All** tab, select **Use for this project** on the profile you want to use. The **In use** tab lists the general profiles your project already uses.

3. When the dialog opens, choose one of these options:
   * **Set for all languages**: the profile is used for all languages in your project.
   * **Customize languages**: in the list of languages that appears, select the checkbox of each language the profile should be used for.
4. Select **Confirm**.

The card of each general profile your project uses shows the **Used for&#x20;*****N*****/*****M*****&#x20;languages** tag. To use another profile for some of these languages, repeat the procedure with that profile, or select a profile for each language on the **Language-specific** tab.

## Using a language-specific profile <a href="#using-a-language-specific-profile" id="using-a-language-specific-profile"></a>

1. Go to *Your project* > **Policies** > **Quality profiles** and select the **Language-specific** tab. See [Retrieving projects](/sonarqube-cloud/managing-your-projects/retrieving-projects.md) to access your project. The table lists each language of your project with its **Quality profile**.
2. Select another profile for the language from the list. The change is saved automatically.
