# Associating with projects

By default, a SonarQube Cloud project uses each language’s default quality profile. You can also explicitly assign a general or language-specific profile to projects.

As a Quality Profile Administrator, you can explicitly associate a quality profile with projects.

As a project administrator, you can associate your project with quality profiles. See the [Quality profile](/sonarqube-cloud/managing-your-projects/project-analysis/quality-profile-association.md) page.

For a given language, the most recent assignment applies, whether it comes from a general profile or a language-specific profile. See [Understanding quality profiles](/sonarqube-cloud/standards/managing-quality-profiles/understanding-quality-profiles.md#profile-types) for more information.

## Assigning a general profile to projects <a href="#assigning-a-profile-for-all-languages" id="assigning-a-profile-for-all-languages"></a>

1. Go to *Your organization* > **Policies** > **Quality profiles**. See [Retrieving your organizations](/sonarqube-cloud/getting-started/viewing-organizations.md) to access your organization.
2. On the **General** tab, locate the profile in the **In use** or **All** tab.
3. In the action menu of the profile, select **Assign projects**.

4. When the dialog opens with the list of your organization’s projects, select the checkbox of each project you want to assign the profile to. Use the **Search** field to filter the list of projects. The profile is assigned for all languages in the selected projects.
5. Select **Assign**.

The **Assign projects** dialog only adds assignments. It does not list the projects the profile is already assigned to. To remove an assignment, change the profile on the project’s **Quality profiles** page. ## Associating a language-specific profile with projects <a href="#associating-a-language-specific-profile" id="associating-a-language-specific-profile"></a>

To explicitly associate a language-specific quality profile with projects, or change the projects associated with it:

1. Go to *Your organization* > **Policies** > **Quality profiles** and, on the **Language-specific** tab, retrieve your quality profile. See [Retrieving your organizations](/sonarqube-cloud/getting-started/viewing-organizations.md) to access your organization.
2. In the **Projects** section of the quality profile, select **Change projects**. The **Projects** dialog opens.

3. Select the tab you want to use to filter the list of projects:
   1. The **With** tab shows the projects associated with this quality profile. Use this tab to remove associations.
   2. The **Without** tab shows the projects not associated with this quality profile. Use this tab to associate projects.
   3. The **All** tab shows all projects. Use this tab to associate all projects or remove all associations.
4. Use the Search field to filter the list of projects.
5. Select or unselect a project to associate the project or remove the association, respectively. In the **All** tab, select **Bulk Change** to select or unselect all projects.
6. If you’re in the **With** or **Without** tabs, select **Reload** to refresh the dialog with your changes.
7. Select **Close**.
