Upgrade roadmap

The section lists the steps you have to perform to upgrade your SonarQube server installation.

If you previously used ZIP installation, we recommend installing SonarQube Server from a Docker image or Helm chart (Kubernetes/OpenShift). These methods make it easier to update to newer versions and to operate your instance. Install from the ZIP file only if neither of those options is feasible for your environment.

Follow these steps to perform an upgrade of your SonarQube Server:

1. Determining the upgrade path.
2. Testing the upgrade.
3. Back up the SonarQube database.
4. Performing the upgrade.
5. Performing the post-upgrade steps.
